MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The University of Minnesota issued a crime alert after an attempted robbery off-campus in the Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Sunday.
At around 4:30 p.m., the attempted robbery occurred near the intersection of 13th Avenue Southeast and 8th Street Southeast. The victim, who is not affiliated with the University, was scraping the windshield of her car when a suspect approached her, demanded money and displayed a handgun.
The victim then backed away from the suspect and when the victim’s boyfriend exited their residence and appeared on the sidewalk, the man fled north on 8th Street. The victim didn’t lose any valuables and was not injuries, officials said.
Police officers searched the area and could not find the suspect.
Authorities describe the suspect as a black male, 25 to 29 years old, dark complexion, 6-feet-tall, medium build and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with black sweatpants. He was wearing his hood up and had the hood pulled tight, so the victim could only see his eyes, nose and mouth. The gun he displayed was a black revolver with a thin barrel.

The crime alert announcement comes after a string of robberies on or near the U of M campus.
