MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — An equipment trailer stolen from a wheelchair hockey league in Shakopee has been recovered in Maple Grove.

The trailer, which belonged to the Minnesota PowerHockey League, was stolen Wednesday, Jan. 25 near the Carburetion and Turbo Systems — a building located on the 1800 block of Eagle Creek Boulevard in Shakopee.

Police in Maple Grove were investigating another crime when they came across the stolen trailer at a warehouse.

“They were investigating an unrelated crime,” said Maple Grove Capt. Tracy Stille. “They happened to see a trailer parked at the outdoor storage facility. The license plates were removed and they thought it was suspicious.”

The trailer still had a blue PowerHockey logo on both sides. The league estimates its worth at $3,000.

After police checked the trailer’s registration numbers, they discovered it was stolen.

The suspect is a convicted felon on probation. Police say he may be responsible for dozens of other thefts.

Stille said the trailer had equipment from the league and other items including a snow blower.

“We found other items in the trailer that may have been stolen after the fact. It did not belong to the hockey team,” said Capt. Stille. “We have a lot of property including computer equipment, construction equipment … which was in some bags just outside of the trailer.”

The Minnesota-based nonprofit will get its trailer back on Thursday.
