ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Supreme Court says it will continue to allow media to use cameras in certain civil cases, and it is ordering a study to see if cameras should be considered in certain criminal proceedings as well.

A pilot project that started in 2011 allowed the media to use audio and video recording in certain civil cases if a judge authorized their request. That pilot project has ended, but the Supreme Court says in an order Tuesday that such media coverage should continue.

The high court finalized the rules that were in place under the pilot program. In addition, Chief Justice Lorie Gildea wrote that an advisory committee will have the next year to study whether audio and video coverage can be expanded into some criminal proceedings.
