MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — An inmate from the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Shakopee is back in custody after running from the grounds Monday night.
Mayor Brad Tabke says he’s glad no one was hurt, but says a fence needs to be built around the women’s prison to prevent it from happening again.
“It used to not have too many violent offenders or even that many inmates when it was first built back in 1986,” Tabke said. “There were only 86 women here, and today there are 653.”
Tabke says the city council and the department of corrections will encourage law makers to approve funding in the bonding bill next session.
