MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A man who claimed he was sexually abused by a former teacher at Breck School in the 1970s has settled his lawsuit with the school.
Richard Covin was a student at Breck when he says William Jacobs abused him.
Covin claimed Breck was negligent and failed to protect kids because it allowed Jacobs to teach despite a prior abuse allegation.
Covin’s attorney, Jeff Anderson, says as part of the settlement, Breck has implemented policies to keep something like this from happening again.
Jacobs is an ex-chief of the Minneapolis Park Police. He’s serving an 18-year prison sentence for molesting a teenage boy from 2007 to 2010. After Jacobs’ arrest, 17 men accused him of sexually abusing them between 1962 and 1980, when Jacobs was a teacher, camp counselor and coach.
