ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – The two officers involved in Friday’s police-involved shooting that sent one man to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries have been identified.

St. Paul Police identified the officers as six-year veteran Darin McDonald and four-year veteran Michael Tschida.

According to authorities, an officer stopped a vehicle just after 5 p.m. Friday near Front Avenue and Marion Street, but the driver fled.

Police say the pursuit that ensued after the suspect fled went on for about eight miles through St. Paul streets.

The suspect eventually slowed his vehicle and jumped out near the intersection of Front Avenue and Woodbridge Street.

Officers at the scene fired their weapons at the suspect, wounding him. No officers were injured.

The reason why police opened fire is not known at this time, but they believed the suspect was armed.

Authorities say investigators will present a case against the suspect to prosecutors in the coming days. The man is currently at Regions Hospital. His identity has not been released.
