COLD SPRING, Minn. (AP) – Residents of Cold Spring will mark the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of local police officer Tom Decker with an evening candlelight vigil.
The St. Cloud Times reports that city employees organized the Friday vigil at the request of Decker’s widow, Alicia. It will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of city hall.
Decker was on duty last Nov. 29 when he responded to a report of a possibly suicidal man in an apartment above a downtown bar.
He was shot behind the bar as he looked for the man in question, who police later cleared in the shooting.
A second man whom police were prepared to arrest for the killing committed suicide in early January.
