MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Police are warning north Minneapolis residents to take precautions after a spike in robberies – 75 percent of them armed – in the precinct.
The police advisory was issued after 46 robberies of person were reported since Nov. 1, which is a 50 percent increase from the same time period last year (36).
Two-thirds of the robberies happened after dark, mostly between Glenwood Avenue on the south and Dowling Avenue on the north. In a few instances, the victims were physically assaulted, police said.
Police are specifically warning people who use public transportation, since many of the robberies occurred along or near major bus routes and bus stops. Everyone is encouraged to not use or display their cell phone more than necessary and to practice good personal safety habits.
