COLD SPRING, Minn. (AP) – Students and staff at Rocori High School are marking the tenth anniversary of a fatal school shooting in a low-key manner at the request of families involved.
Teens and educators paused for a moment of silence Tuesday to remember the Sept. 24, 2003 high school shooting that killed two students — 14-year-old Seth Bartell and 17-year-old Aaron Rollins.
Ninth-grader John McLaughlin was convicted in the shooting and sentenced to life in prison.
Cold Spring Mayor Doug Schmitz tells the St. Cloud Times there’s a frustration among residents of the small community that it’s known only for the school shooting and the fatal shooting of police officer Tom Decker last November.
Schmitz says the community moves forward, but will never forget.
