HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) – Three teenagers were charged Friday with first- and second-degree murder for the death of a West St. Paul man in January.
According to the Dakota County Attorney’s office, 19-year-old Donovan Michael Diego, 17-year-old Christino Andres Rosario and 18-year-old Malik Jamal Alize Farmer are accused of shooting and killing 31-year-old Luis David Reyes-Galvan during an attempted robbery and burglary on Jan. 11.
The complaint alleges that the teens planned on robbing Reyes-Galvan with guns they had acquired in a burglary in West St. Paul on Jan. 10. The teens first knocked on the Reyes-Galvan’s door, and after no response, they waited in a nearby vehicle until he arrived.
Reyes-Galvan returned home with his 10-year-old daughter and 12-year-old nephew. His daughter recalled that the teens approached him on both sides with guns drawn.
After sending her and his nephew inside the house, the victim confronted the men. After a brief altercation, Reyes-Galvan was shot near his left shoulder. A witness says the teens fled from the scene in a dark color SUV.
The medical examiner says the bullet exited through the right side of Reyes-Galvan’s chest. The victim was transported to Regions Hospital where he was pronounced dead from blood loss.
Malik Jamal Alize Farmer is expected to make his first court appearance Friday. Rosario and Diego will make their appearances next week.
