MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A south metro school went into lockdown briefly Wednesday morning, police say, after someone walked into the nearby woods and fired a shotgun into the ground.

The Bloomington Police Department said an adult male who lives in the area of the school had taken his grandfather’s shotgun and fired it behind Life Academy, on 2201 West 108th Street.

The student did not threaten anyone, police said, but he was ticketed for a misdemeanor: discharge of a gun in the city.

Authorities were initially alerted after someone in the school saw the student carrying the gun into the woods.

The student has not named.

Life Academy’s website says it’s a Christian school, with classes ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade.
