MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man who is already currently in prison now faces a murder charge in connection with a death that has gone unsolved since 1975.
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced the charge against 61-year-old Michael John Husten.
Police say they never had enough evidence to pin the death of 24-year-old Roger Haugen — who was killed in February 1975 — on Husten, but always considered him a suspect.
Haugen was dropped off at Hennepin County Medical Center with a severe head injury. He died the next day. It was determined he had died as a result of a brain stem hemorrhage.
The county attorney said Husten admitted last year to being involved in a fight with Haugen and dropping a stereo receiver on his head. This corroborated with information from the original investigation.
Husten has been charged with second-degree murder in the case. He is currently being held in Stillwater prison for a different crime.
