MINNEAPOLIS (AP/WCCO) — Minneapolis police are searching for a suspect after three people including a toddler were shot and seriously injured on the city’s north side.

Police spokeswoman Cyndi Barrington said all three victims are expected to survive, but police can’t say for sure if the people who live in the area are in danger or not.

“The fact that you’ve got three separate victims all shot speaks for itself,” Barrington said. “This is serious. You’ve got three victims that were shot in broad daylight and and it’s a high priority for the police department.”

Barrington said the shooting was reported around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 2900 block of Lyndale Avenue North.

A group was outside near a parked car when a man began shooting. The suspect, whose motive is unknown, then fled on foot.

A 14-month-old girl was shot in the shoulder and a woman in her 20s was shot in a leg. Both were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. A 17-year-old boy also was shot in the leg. He was taken by private vehicle to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

“I heard it was a young one, I wanted to come and pray,” Mary Johnson said. “My son was murdered and that’s one of the reasons I came up.”

Her son died in north Minneapolis two decades ago when he was 20. She started a group of grieving mothers who don’t want anymore company.

“We’re sick and tired of being sick and tired of turning on the news and hearing someone else’s child has been shot,” she said.

Police are canvassing the area Tuesday night and there’s extra patrols. If you have information, call 612-692-8477.
