MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — After a weekend of increased DWI patrols and live-tweeted arrests, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (MnDPS) has announced hundreds of DWI arrests.
The MnDPS tweeted Monday morning that approximately 425 DWI arrests were recorded this weekend.

All Friday night, the MnDPS live-tweeted DWI arrest activity, including the age and gender of the offenders, the location of the arrest and the offender’s alcohol-concentration level.
Lt. Eric Roeske with the State Patrol said Friday that “with over 500 killed in the last five years, drunk driving remains a huge problem.”
Drunk driving accounts for nearly one-third of Minnesota crash deaths annually, while nearly 300,000 people are arrested for DWI each year, according to the MnDPS.
Extra patrols will continue through Labor Day.
