MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man was arrested in northern Minnesota Saturday night after rolling his car, then allegedly stealing a vehicle from a Good Samaritan trying to help him, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash at about 10:34 p.m. Saturday on the 4400 block of Martin Road with the vehicle possibly on fire. When authorities got to the scene, they learned that several Good Samaritans had stopped to help the crash victim, but they observed him get out of the car and flee into the woods.
A short time later, the man returned, stole one of the Good Samaritan’s cars and fled the scene. A sheriff’s deputy stopped the car eventually and took the man into custody without incident. He was identified as 24-year-old Jacob Allan Mellinger of Duluth.
Mellinger was transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, then taken to the St. Louis County Jail. The incident is still under investigation.
