ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — A 19-year-old St. Paul man was charged Friday in connection with the brutal beating and robbery of a young man on the city’s east side, according to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office.
Issac Maiden was charged with two counts of crime for the benefit of a gang – one on first-degree assault, and one on first-degree aggravated robbery with bodily harm. Outside of the gang-related crimes, he’s also charged with one count of first-degree assault, and one count of first-degree aggravated robbery.
According to the complaint, at 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 4, St. Paul police found 40 to 50 young adults fleeing the scene of a man on the ground with blood coming from his nose and mouth.
Once at Regions, the victim was found to have severe and potentially fatal brain swelling.
Witnesses said the victim walked into the melee and got kicked and stomped on. Many of the participants in the beating are believed to be members of the East Side Boyz, or the “Ham Crazy” gang.
Along with witness accounts, Maiden was identified from a still shot taken from a camera in the area.
The family of the victim will address the media at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at St. Paul police headquarters.
