MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Coon Rapids man has been sentenced for stealing prosthetics and other supplies from the University of Minnesota Medical Center-Fairview and selling them online.
Peter Stasica, 52, was sentenced to two years of probation, ordered to pay $88,000 in restitution and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service on one count of wire fraud.
From February to August 2011, Stasica removed prosthetics and related supplies without hospital authorization and sold them on eBay.
Stasica also bought prosthetics from patients who weren’t using them and didn’t tell them that he planned on selling them. He allegedly committed these crimes between February and March of 2011 when he was the prosthetics manager for Fairview’s Orthotics and Prosthetics Department.
The case is the result of an FBI investigation.
