MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A St. Paul man was sentenced Wednesday for his role in a “car surfing” accident in August 2012 that killed 21-year-old Shawn Swanson, also of St. Paul.
Cole T. Fohrenkamm, 22, was sentenced for reckless driving and will serve three years of probation, 30 days in jail and will complete 300 hours of community service after the incident that took place last year near Oakland, Wis. One-quarter of Fohrenkamm’s community service has to involve educating others about the dangers of drinking and alcohol.
Authorities said Fohrenkamm was driving when Swanson was riding on the top of the SUV, fell off, hit the road and died.
In addition, he’ll report to jail 10 days each year for three consecutive years, and visit Swanson’s grave on the anniversary of the accident.
