EAGAN (WCCO) — A 42-year-old man is facing two assault charges after he allegedly bit off a man’s fingertip and threatened him with a knife, according to the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.

Levi Deron Randolph of Minneapolis has been charged with second-degree assault and third-degree assault in connection to the Jan. 18, 2012 incident inside an Eagan apartment.

According to the criminal complaint, Randolph was angered by an argument between his aunt and her husband, who was identified by police as “K.L.M.” He confronted K.L.M., got in his face and spat on him. When K.L.M. tried pushing away Randolph with his left hand, Randolph allegedly bit off the tip of K.L.M.’s left index finger.

After some more fighting, Randolph walked to the kitchen and retrieved a knife, which he used to threaten K.L.M. In order to defend himself, K.L.M. told police he grabbed a fire extinguisher and sprayed it at Randolph.

If convicted of both charges, Randolph could face up to 12 years in prison.
