MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Champlin Police said Monday they’ve requested to terminate the parental rights of a couple after their twin 4-month-old daughters were found to be abused, resulting in one of their deaths.

The Champlin Police Department handed the case over to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office Monday for possible charges against 33-year-old Carey Cornell Johnson and 36-year-old Ashaki Renee (Campbell) Johnson. Police were called on Feb. 16 to a home on the 6300 block of 112th Place North on a report of a medical emergency involving a 4-month-old girl. When authorities arrived, the girl’s twin sister was also in the home. The girl, later identified as Madyson Lanae Johnson, died on Feb. 20 at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled she died of blunt force craniocerebral injury. The victim’s twin sister, Makenzy, was removed from the home and remains in protective custody after an investigation showed injuries to both girls were consistent with abuse.

The case is still under investigation and charges have not yet been formally announced.
