MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Five employees of an Italian cruise ship that crashed off the coast of Italy have been convicted of manslaughter.

The Costa Concordia sank off the shores of Tuscany in January 2012.

Among the 32 who died were Barb and Jerry Heil, who lived in White Bear Lake.

Under the plea deal, the five employees were sentenced to prison, but only two will likely serve time.

The ship’s captain, Francesco Schettino, denied the plea bargain and will be tried separately.

Schettino faces up to 20 years if convicted of manslaughter, causing the shipwreck and abandoning the ship.
