HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) – A South St. Paul Police sergeant was charged Friday with two counts of fourth-degree driving while impaired, one count of criminal damage to property and one count of fleeing a peace officer after a run in with Rosemount Police earlier this week.

According to the Dakota County Attorney’s office, 36-year-old Cory Michael Slifko fled from a Rosemount Police officer who was attempting to pull him over around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Slifko, a resident of Farmington, served as a South St. Paul Police officer for 13 years and was recently promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom says Slifko’s position of authority will not sway the case in any way.

“This case will be prosecuted in the same manner as similar cases referred to our office,” Backstrom said.

Bail was set for Slifko at $30,000 without conditions. He was charged by summons, and will appear in court to face the four charges within the next four weeks.
