DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Duluth police say a car crash led to an officer-involved shooting that killed a 26-year-old man.
Police say the driver had fled after the single-vehicle crash happened just before 2 a.m. Tuesday. Two officers responded to an address where the car owner lived, and one officer encountered a man outside with a handgun.
Police say both officers shouted at the man to comply, but when the officers tried to take him into custody he reached for the area where the gun was located. Both officers fired their guns.
The man, who lived in Duluth, died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.
One officer has been with the department 5 years and the other 4 years. Neither was hurt. Both will be placed on standard paid administrative lead.
