SHOREVIEW, Minn. (WCCO) – Several hours since it happened, deputies are still working the scene where two people were killed and another two were injured in Shoreview, Minn., on Tuesday.
The incident is especially complicated because four people were shot, which makes piecing together the details difficult.
The incident happened near County Road J at a single-family home along Grotto Street. Police were summoned to the scene just before 10 a.m., and found all four victims there. Two people — Nancy Sullivan and John Simpson – were dead on arrival.
Police say Sullivan lived in the home and was in the process of moving out when she was shot and killed. Her long-time boyfriend, Simpson, was also found dead inside the home.
The two wounded were a man, and woman named Katherine Fay, who police say is related to Sullivan. Fay is in critical condition at Regions Hospital. The man, who was not named, is expected to be OK.
Police say no kids were present at the time of the shooting and a weapon was recovered at the home.
Next-door neighbor Kathy Huber said Simpson was retired and loved to golf and that Sullivan was happy to have family over to hang out by the pool they had.
Sullivan was an active volunteer and an attorney for the law firm Barnes and Thornburg. The firm released a statement Tuesday afternoon saying, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy’s family at this difficult time. She was an exceptional lawyer and a wonderful person. We will miss her greatly.”
Police are investigating the possibility that the incident was an intended murder-suicide.
“It’s a little bit unnerving,” said neighbor Joe Olson. “In the backyard…you don’t ever think it’s going to be that close.”
