MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Minneapolis bicycling community honored a cyclist who was killed on his way to synagogue.
Thomas Malloy died two weeks ago crossing Franklin Avenue and West River Parkway. On Sunday, dozens of bicyclists held a memorial in his honor.
A ghost bike was placed at the area where Malloy lost his life. The program hopes to raise awareness about the dangers cyclists face.
After a brief service bikers rode to the synagogue where Malloy never made it to that day.
“It’s an opportunity to honor him and hope for that this never happens again because it’s a tragedy and none should have to go through what his family is going through right now,” said Ethan Fawley with the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition.
Wesley Gubbin has been charged with killing Malloy. He turned himself into police hours after it happened.
