MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 59-year-old woman who worked in a city kindergarten classroom was sentenced last week to serve five days of community service, a year of probation and to pay a $200 fine for bringing a loaded Ruger .357 to school.
Kathleen Scozzari pleaded guilty last Friday to one misdemeanor count in connection to bringing a gun inside Seward Elementary School in south Minneapolis last December.
Scozzari had allegedly been bringing the gun to the school, where she worked, since the horrific Connecticut school shooting, a criminal complaint said.
Scozzari initially lied to a responding officer about having the gun in her locker that day, although she did admit to bringing it to school in the past. But when school authorities made like they were going to open her locker with bolt cutters, her story reportedly changed.
After the locker was opened, the officer recovered the gun, and then escorted Scozzari out of the school.
Scozzari has a permit to carry a concealed weapon. She worked as an assistant in a kindergarten classroom. She is currently on leave, according to the school.
