MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Friends and family of a man shot and killed by police marched through downtown Minneapolis Friday evening calling for justice.

Terrance “Mookie” Franklin, 22, was shot several times after a car and foot chase in Minneapolis earlier this month. Investigators said he was a burglary suspect.

Marchers held signs and chanted at the Hennepin County Government Center Friday evening. They’re alleging racism and say the police should be prosecuted for Franklin’s death.

They also say an independent investigator needs to look at the case.

“We want them to stop insulting our intelligence with their story, because it’s not making any sense whatsoever,” said Ciara Hinton of the Committee for Justice for Terrance Franklin. “We just want straight answers. They’re just taking us on a run, like, we don’t know the truth. We want the truth. It’s been too long.”

Police have not said what happened during their struggle with Franklin three weeks ago.

However, sources told WCCO-TV that Franklin got a hold of an officer’s gun and fired, wounding the two officers.

Two weeks ago, the police department said DNA evidence from the scene had been sent to the state crime lab. Those results have yet to be made public.

As for the racism allegations, Chief Janee Harteau called them “not only preposterous but without merit.”
