ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — A woman accused of hitting and killing her boyfriend with her vehicle in January has been sentenced.
Arlene Garcia, 54, was sentenced to more than four years in prison after she pleaded guilty to unintentional criminal vehicular homicide on March 4.
Garcia was given credit for 99 days that she’s already served. She will also pay the family about $2,600 for funeral services, as part of her sentence.
Authorities said Mark Leroy Urang, of St. Paul, died the day after the incident from injuries he suffered from being run over.
Police initially responded to the 600 block of Wells Street at about 10:45 p.m. on Jan. 30 on a report of a man found lying in the middle of the street. When authorities arrived, they found him unresponsive.
Urang was transported to Regions Hospital, where he died at about 8 p.m. the following day. Authorities say Urang had been in some sort of argument with his girlfriend, Garcia, and actually called 911 before he was hit.
Police say both Urang and Garcia appeared to be drinking at the time of the dispute.
