Charges: Man Threatens Family With Knife, Assaults Officer, K-9

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 35-year-old Otsego man is accused of assaulting a police officer and a police dog while threatening people with a knife at home in Nowthen, according to charges filed Thursday in Anoka County Court.

Ivan Ivanovich Revenko was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, one count of fourth-degree assault, one count of harming a police dog and one count of obstructing the legal process in connection with the incident.

According to the charges, multiple police agencies were called Monday night to a residence in Nowthen on a report of a man threatening to kill multiple people with a large knife. That man, later identified as Revenko, was standing outside the residence smoking when authorities arrived. He refused to comply with officer’s demands to show his hands.

According to the complaint, while trying to get Revenko to comply with demands, he pulled a large knife out from under his coat. He walked toward officers refusing to comply with their demands. Officers used a Taser on him to try to get him to comply to demands, but it appeared to have no effect on him.

Revenko continued not to comply with officer’s demands and got into a physical confrontation with a sheriff’s deputy. He allegedly gave the deputy a bloody nose. Police deployed a K-9 on Revenko, who fought off the dog and eventually starting choking the dog. Several officers came into subdue the man and eventually took him into custody. The K-9 suffered injuries, including a broken tooth, according to the complaint.

A woman at the residence later told police the family at the residence had a distant relationship with him and considered him a long time problem for them. She said Revenko showed up at the residence on Monday and made threats to kill her husband. She said years ago, Revenko wanted to marry her, according to the complaint.

She said Revenko had a long knife with him and threatened her life as well as her husband’s. He also threatened to kill her father. The woman’s father was in his garage when Revenko got to the residence. The father told police Revenko pulled a knife and threatened him and the family. The father said he was running around parked cars to avoid Revenko, the complaint states.

If convicted on all charges, Revenko faces up to 24 years in prison and nearly $50,000 in fines.
