ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – On Friday, Kira Trevino’s mother and father talked with reporters to reignite search efforts for their missing daughter, and St. Paul police announced a $5,000 reward is now offered to anyone who can help find Kira.

Kira’s father, Jay Steger, says now that the snow has melted and lakes have thawed, they hope to have more luck.

“Even if you’re going boating or fishing, or hunting, or anything like that — look a little bit,” Jay Steger said. “She could be anywhere.”

Trevino has been missing since Feb. 21 after leaving her job at the Mall of America. Her husband, Jeffery Trevino, 39, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder after large amounts of Kira’s blood were found at the couple’s home.

On Friday, Jeffery appeared in court for a pretrial hearing. His trial is scheduled to begin on May 28.

Over the last two months, Ramsey County deputies, St. Paul police, and volunteers have searched several locations including the Mississippi River and Keller Lake in Maplewood.

“Those are not the only searches that we’ve done,” St. Paul Police spokesman Howie Padilla said. “Investigators have been out many times in other areas that haven’t been publicly known. The reason they’re not publicly known is because we don’t want to discount anything.”

On Friday, Kira’s parents, Marcie and Jay Steger, said their thoughts are with Mandy Matula’s family in Eden Prairie.

Matula, 24, has been missing since early Thursday morning. Eden Prairie Police had asked her ex-boyfriend David Roe to come to their station and speak with them about Mandy’s whereabouts, he put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger in the police parking lot. He was rushed to HCMC and his condition is now known.

“I just will be thinking of them every day,” Marcie Steger said.

Police and firefighters spent Thursday night searching for Mandy in Miller Park in Eden Prairie, but turned up nothing.

The Stegers said they’re willing to talk with the Matula family if they need support. Marcie said she reached out to Danielle Jelinek’s family in the last few months.

Jelinek, 27, of Oakdale has been missing since Dec. 8, 2012. She was last seen with Aaron Schnagl, a former boyfriend who was arrested on drug charges, at his home near Chisago City. Schnagl is a person of interest in Jelinek’s disappearance.
