MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Eden Prairie police say a man who was coming to the police station to talk to investigators about a missing woman shot himself in the head.

David Roe, 24, drove into the City Center parking lot around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, parked his car and then shot himself. He was then rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center, where his condition is unknown.

After the shooting, police were out at Miller Park searching for the missing woman, identified as 24-year-old Mandy Matula. Police, firefighters and tracking dogs combed the park for hours, looking for any sign of her.

“At this point, I don’t know where Mandy is, or her danger level.  I do know there’s concern to find her,” said Lt. Bill Wyffels of Eden Prairie police.

Police searched the park until around 8 p.m. There’s no word yet if they will search a new location.

Matula was last seen early Thursday morning inside Miller Park in a 2013 Ford Escape, police said. Roe was with her in the car.

Matula’s father told WCCO that Roe is Matula’s ex-boyfriend and that they broke up six months ago after a year-and-a-half of dating, but still saw each other frequently. Matula’s father added that Roe seemed like a nice guy, that he liked him and his daughter liked him.

He added that Roe was still very much in love with his daughter after the break-up.

Matula’s family last saw her at 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Anyone with information on Matula’s whereabouts or anyone who saw them together is asked to contact the Eden Prairie Police Department at 952-949-6200.

More information will be available Friday.
