SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota man has been found guilty in a child sex trafficking case.

U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says a jury convicted 34-year-old Emmanuel Nyuon, of Sioux Falls, on two counts following a four-day trial.

Johnson says many South Dakotans are shocked to learn that human trafficking and child prostitution exists in the state. A Sioux Falls police investigation in spring 2011 discovered a criminal organization that was selling narcotics and prostitutes.

Nyuon was charged with sex trafficking of a child by force, fraud or coercion, and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of a child.

Nyuon faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years. A sentencing date has not been set.
