MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Two boys are banned from Metro Transit for one month after concerned passengers and witnesses called police saying they were armed.

Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland says around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday evening the boys boarded a southbound Route 5 bus on 35th Avenue and Fremont Avenue North.

Siqveland says it sounds the like the boys were displaying the replica guns to bystanders at the bus stop and passengers became concerned.

“Minneapolis Police caught up with them and found that they were in possession of what are called Airsoft guns,” said Siqveland. “They fire plastic pellets.”

The bus was stopped near Fremont Avenue North and Plymouth Avenue North.

A few blocks away, near 11th and Humboldt avenues, Minneapolis Police were investigating a homicide where a man had been shot. Officers were able to respond quickly. The two incidents are not related.

The two boys were taken to the juvenile detention center and are banned from the bus system for one month.
