HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities say they believe an arrest last week has resulted in the largest-ever heroin bust in Dakota County.

According to Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom, 48-year-old Warren Earl Comeaux of Brooklyn Park has been charged with two counts of first-degree controlled substance crimes.

Police were called to an Apple Valley apartment complex on March 29 to investigate a disturbance. When they arrived, they found Comeaux digging through a vehicle.

Officers searched the vehicle and found over two pounds’ worth of heroin, worth an estimated street value of $140,000.

“To keep the large quantity of this seizure in perspective, we have never seized more than 500 grams of heroin in an entire year in Dakota County,” Backstrom said. “This seasure alone is over twice that amount.”

Comeaux, has a prior federal conviction for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine and heroin, as well as using a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. He served 180 months in prison.

He is currently being held on $100,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 1.
