MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 23-year-old South St. Paul man is accused of fleeing police while driving without a license with his pregnant girlfriend and three other kids inside the car, according to charges filed Wednesday in Dakota County Court.

Andrew Erik Heiderscheid has been charged with fleeing a police officer and driving after suspension in connection with the incident, which happened last Saturday.

According to a complaint, South St. Paul Police spotted Heiderscheid driving at about 7:02 p.m. near the intersection of Ash Street and 5th Avenue in South St. Paul and knew he didn’t have a valid license. When officers attempted to stop him, he drove away at a high rate of speed.

The complaint states that his pregnant girlfriend, their 1 and 2-year old children and her 9-year-old daughter were all inside the vehicle at the time. A chase ensued and police urged him to pull over, saying he was only making it worse for everyone involved. He told police he couldn’t pull over because he knew he was going to jail.

Heiderscheid eventually pulled over and admitted to police he was driving without a license and was trying to avoid police. His driver’s license had been suspended as recently as July of 2012. If convicted, Heiderscheid faces more than three years in jail and $6,000 in fines.
