MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A hostage situation has ended with one person dead in the Cedar-Riverside area of Minneapolis late Friday evening.
Police responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment building on the 1500 block of 4th Street South at about 10:30 p.m.
When police arrived, they found a man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Police say another man, believed to be the shooter, ran into an apartment.
He held a woman inside for about two hours before she was finally released.
The standoff lasted through the early morning, as hostage negotiators were called in.
Eventually, SWAT teams deployed a robot to enter the building. They found that the suspect had died of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the man’s name and his cause of death.
Sgt. Stephen McCarty says the woman had minor injuries, but wasn’t shot.
