MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (WCCO) — A North St. Paul family is now left with questions after someone killed their 16-year-old girl, who they say was bubbly and full of humor.
Early Saturday morning, Maplewood Police found Anna Hurd’s body at Hillside Park. A 911 call led them to the park. Investigators later released new information Sunday, saying she was stabbed several times.
Inside Hillside Park, where two walking paths meet, is where family and friends of Anna gathered to remember a young life that was taken too soon. Anna’s body was found in this wooded area. There, those who knew her best sang songs and prayed, hoping to understand why this had to happen.
“Mom and those guys don’t live here and she‘s with her dad and he isn’t going to teach her how to curl her hair,” said Heather Davy, Anna’s aunt.
Heather Davy says her niece was like a younger sister to her, but her bond with her dad, Patrick Hurd, was unbreakable.
“He knows God took her and she is up there with Him right now but it doesn’t make it any easier down here,” said Heather Davy.
Patrick Hurd was too broken to speak, but his sister felt she had to say something, so people could know how special her niece was.
“She was sweet, she was funny, she always like to play around and goof around, she wouldn’t hurt nobody,” Heather Davy said.
Heather Davy says that’s why it’s hard to believe someone would want to hurt Anna.
Her body found just four blocks away from her dad’s house, this family wants to know the truth and they believe someone out there has the answers they are looking for.
“He’s very angry. He doesn’t understand why the unanswered questions people don’t want to answer anything we just want the truth he just wants the truth he just wants to know what happened,” Heather Davy said.
Anna played volleyball and basketball for North St. Paul High School. She was set to leave Minnesota next week, going to Texas to live with her mom.
Police say they are no longer looking for that person of interest they wanted to speak with and also aren’t saying what if any involvement that person had in the crime.
Investigators continue to interview people with information about the murder. They hope to have an arrest soon.
