MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a Blaine Police officer is okay but had his squad car damaged when it was hit by a suspected drunk driver while making a traffic stop Thursday night.
Blaine Police say the incident happened at about 9 p.m. near the area of Highway 65 and the 125th Avenue bridge. Authorities say a police officer was conducting a traffic stop and the emergency lights on the squad care were flashing when it was hit by a pick-up truck heading northbound on Highway 65.
Police say the suspect vehicle continued past the officer before it went off the road and came to a stop on the shoulder of Highway 65. Neither the officer or the suspected drunk driver was hurt in the crash. The Minnesota State Patrol took the driver of the pick-up truck into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired.
The suspect has not yet been formally charged in the incident, which is still under investigation by Blaine Police and the Minnesota State Patrol.
