MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say an Apple Valley woman admitted to signing a neighbor up last year for more than 20 magazine subscriptions that she didn’t ask for.

Brenda Sanchez, 50, told police that she was frustrated with her neighbor, and that she didn’t feel she could get in trouble for filling out 24 magazine subscription cards in her neighbor’s name, a criminal complaint said.

Sanchez is now charged with two counts of stalking, both felonies.

The bill for those magazines amounted to more than $520, the complaint said.

Last December, the neighbor called police about the subscriptions, suspecting Sanchez. When police investigated, they did a handwriting analysis.

They said that there was a match between the handwriting on the subscription cards and the handwriting on a letter Sanchez wrote to her homeowner’s association.

When police first questioned Sanchez, she denied knowing anything about the magazines. However, when they questioned her weeks later, she said: “I did them all.”

She also told police that she and her neighbor had quite a rift between them.

She said her neighbor turned her into the homeowner’s association after  her dog relieved itself on her neighbor’s yard. She also accused her neighbor of playing music loudly and banging on her wall one morning around 4 a.m.

If convicted of both charges, Sanchez could receive a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000.
