MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police say a man is in custody after fleeing police during a traffic stop Wednesday and eventually getting stuck in a median after trying to ram a squad car with their pick-up truck.
Authorities say the incident happened at about 10:50 a.m. Wednesday in the city of Dodge Center in southern Minnesota. A Dodge County deputy saw a pick-up truck traveling about 50 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone. The truck nearly hit the squad car before the deputy was able to stop it in the parking lot of a business.
The driver gave the officer a false ID and was not being cooperative, and authorities said when the deputy went to his squad to request assistance, the driver turned his truck around and tried to drive head-on into the squad car. The deputy avoided the truck and a chase ensued.
The driver of the pick-up truck eventually got stuck in a median on Highway 14 east of County Road 25 and was taken into custody. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Kasson Police, the Minnesota State Patrol and the Dodge County Highway Department.
Authorities identified the man as 50-year-old Barry Frances Colsch of Caledonia. He’s facing several charges, including fleeing a police officer, reckless driving and driving the wrong way down a one way.
