MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 16-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to what the Hennepin County Attorney calls “an almost incomprehensible crime,” which resulted in the shooting death of a 13-year-old boy.

Derrick Deangelo Catchings specifically pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in connection to a fatal shooting in the summer of 2011.

Catchings admitted to shooting and killing Rayjon Gomex, who was biking in a North Minneapolis alley with a friend. The friend was also shot and wounded.

“We think this is a good resolution to an almost incomprehensible crime,” Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said. “The victim is 13 years old and riding his bicycle. The person who admits pulling the trigger was just 15 at the time. This gun violence among children must stop.”

Catchings is expected to receive more than 38 years in prison.

His sentencing is set for 1:30 p.m. on May 20.
