MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 37-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to drug charges alleging she gave her 12-year-old daughter heroin, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Wednesday.
Rebecca Rachelle Hill, who was living out of her car, specifically pleaded guilty to second-degree controlled substance crime. Charges of child endangerment, motor vehicle theft and false information will be dropped.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the Macy’s store at the Mall Of America on Oct. 13, 2012, because store security earlier caught Hill and her daughter stealing clothes. Hill was arrested on an outstanding warrant and her daughter was allowed to leave with her grandmother.
The next day, the girl’s father called police and reported that he had taken her to the hospital because she was suffering withdrawal symptoms. The girl said Hill had given her marijuana and heroin regularly the past three weeks, the complaint said.
The girl successfully made it through drug withdrawal and was discharged from the hospital, but is continuing treatment. She’s living safely with her father and stepfather, according to Freeman.
Hill is expected to receive 48 months in prison when she is sentenced on Feb. 12.
