MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Minnesota recorded the lowest number of murders from domestic abuse in 20 years last year.

Even so, at least 18 people lost their lives.

That’s according to the Minnesota Coalition of Battered Women, which issued it’s annual Femicide Report today.

Even though the numbers are down from the 34 domestic violence murders the previous year, the Coalition says it is too soon to know if it’s a trend.

And points out that even one murder is too many.

“At least 14 women and one man were murdered by an intimate partner,” said Rebekah Moses, of the MN Coalition for Battered Women. “At least three friends and one family member were murdered and 11 minor children were left without one or both parents.”

The Coalition of Battered Women is recommending that the legislature impose tighter firearms restrictions on domestic abusers.
