ANOKA, Minn. (WCCO) – An Anoka man is charged with leading police on a chase while high and crashing his vehicle into another vehicle carrying a family of five.
The criminal complaint says that police attempted to pull over 24-year-old Arlan Kaleb Schultz the evening of Jan. 19.
When Schultz took off at a high rate of speed, a police chase ensued. The complaint says that Schultz was weaving from southbound traffic on 7th Avenue to northbound traffic and back.
Schultz blew through a red light at Main Street and crashed into a vehicle containing two adults and their three children.
Police said Schultz tried to run away, but officer caught him a short distance away. He had two hypodermic needles in his front shorts pocket, the complaint said.
Schultz admitted to police that he had used methamphetamine, marijuana and alcohol.
Authorities said one of the three children in the other vehicle required staples to treat a head injury sustained in the crash.
Schultz has been charged with fleeing police officers and criminal vehicular operation.
