MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A federal superseding indictment unsealed on Tuesday charges a previously indicted man with murder in connection to the deaths of a couple on the Red Lake Indian Reservation on New Year’s Day 2011.

Kevin John Needham, 21, previously charged with one count of robbery, has now also been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder.

The charges against Needham’s four co-defendants remain unchanged. All four were indicted on two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and one count of robbery. The four are 30-year-old Geshik-O-Binese Martin, 28-year-old Edward McCabe Robinson, 46-year-old David John Martin and 24-year-old George Allen Martin.

All four are in federal custody.

The indictment alleges that on Jan. 1, 2011, the group killed Craig David Roy and Darla Ann Beaulieu while stealing money and illegal drugs from Roy’s reservation residence. The bodies of Roy and Beaulieu were found in the remains of the house, which was destroyed by fire that day.

Autopsies show the victims were killed by multiple stab wounds, not by the fire.

If convicted, Needham, Robinson, and the Martins face potential maximum penalties of life in prison.
