ST. PAUL (WCCO) — A federal jury has found a St. Paul man guilty of being a felon in possession of a nine-millimeter, semi-automatic pistol.
On Wednesday, Demetrius Demarco Spencer, age unknown, was convicted of one count. He was indicted on Nov. 14, 2012.
According to the indictment and evidence presented, Spencer possessed the gun on Aug. 23, 2012. On that day, officers on routine patrol outside a Minneapolis nightclub spotted Spencer reach into his pants and remove an “L-shaped” item covered with a white sock and placed it under the seat of a nearby car. Police later recovered the pistol, which was hidden in the sock.
Spencer’s prior convictions include possession of a pistol by a prohibited person, third-degree assault and aggravated robbery. Because he is a felon, Spencer is prohibited under federal law from possessing a firearm at any time.
Spencer could face up to 10 years in prison for his crime.
