MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Police say they need help from the public to solving a homicide that happened early Thursday morning in North Minneapolis.

A woman was found dead inside a duplex on 23rd and Queen Avenue North around 3:30 a.m.

A roommate of the victim told WCCO he came downstairs to get something and noticed the door to her bedroom was open and she was lying on the floor. The man says he immediately called 911.

He also mentioned while the front door was locked, the back door was not.

Investigators blocked off the alley behind the building and searched inside and out for clues, but police say they’re still trying to figure out how she died.

“It’s possible it was a stabbing.  We’re not sure at this time.  The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner, but we’re not exactly sure what the cause of death was,” Minneapolis Police inspector Mike Kjos said.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released. Her roommate said she was in her 40s and had two children.

If you have any information that could help police, they would like you to give them a call.
