WINONA, Minn. (WCCO) – A Winona Police officer was charged Thursday with two counts of 3rd degree driving while intoxicated (DWI).

On Nov. 27, Officer Ryan Donald Walski, 35, pulled up in his vehicle to Winona City Hall at approximately 3:45 p.m., where he spoke with Deputy Chief Tom Williams.

Due to his speech, appearance, mannerisms and the smell of alcohol, Williams believed Walski to be intoxicated.

When asked if he was intoxicated, Walski admitted to Williams that he would fail a preliminary breath test (PBT). Williams then drove Walski to Winona Community Memorial Hospital, where he submitted to a PBT, resulting in a blood alcohol concentration of .26. The legal limit in Minnesota is .08.

A blood test sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) revealed a concentration of .22.

Walski is due in court on Feb. 4 at 11 a.m.
