ST. PAUL (WCCO) — A St. Paul family’s home was burglarized and all the gifts underneath their Christmas tree were taken. Now, neighbors are coming to their aid.
It’s the fourth time in less than two years Sun Woo Kang’s home has been hit. This time they also smashed the front door, leaving the family with no security.
Kang’s family has been burglarized four times in less than two years. This time, all of the Christmas gifts for the three children who live there were taken and a computer Kang uses in his work as a youth pastor.
After hearing their door was smashed in, neighbors feared for the family’s safety and decided something needed to be done.
“I talked to a couple of neighbors and I said we need to do something for him,” said neighbor Lloyd Sumner. “It’s the Christmas season, so I just jumped into action.”
So, a group went door to door and collected more than $700, which was enough to fix the Kang’s front door.
“We have really great generous neighbors it was just amazing to go around and see how generous everybody was in this situation,” said Ann Sumner.
Other neighbors donated gifts for the children.
Even the New Brighton officer who took the burglary report returned hours later to help the family.
“It’s hard for me to explain and hard for me to express my appreciation,” said Kang.
Kang says as a youth pastor, he strives to touch the hearts of people. Now, it is his heart that is full of what his neighbors shared with his family: love, charity and goodwill.
Neighbors now hope someone helps them install the new door before Christmas.
