MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 25-year-old man is accused of murder in the Nov. 17 beating death of a man on the north side of Minneapolis, according to charges filed in Hennepin County Court.
Deandre Montrell Stokes has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident.
According to police, authorities were called to the 3300 block of Girard Avenue North on Nov. 17 on a report of an assault. When they arrived, a man was bleeding severely, unresponsive and not breathing. Emergency personnel arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Witnesses at the scene told police several men, adults and juveniles, were sitting around a kitchen table when the victim and another man entered the residence and went downstairs. The men at the table got up, ran downstairs and proceeded to punch and kick the victim before dragging him out the back door.
Police said once they got outside, as many as three men were jumping off a retaining wall and onto the victim on the ground. One of the three was later identified as Stokes, who was arrested a few days later.
Stokes is currently in the Hennepin County Jail.
